Generator Interconnection Procedures

transmission lineOn March 12, 2010, Tri-State posted its Revised Generation Interconnection Procedures (GIP) on its OASIS (Open Access Same-Time Transmission System).  These new procedures represent the culmination of a year-long process for the association’s interconnection queue reform.  Tri-State conducted an extended stakeholder involvement process that included two stakeholder meetings and three comment periods.  Feedback from numerous entities was evaluated and changes to the GIP were made in response to the input.

The GIP meets Tri-State’s original goal to develop “a process that allows competitive generators to deliver energy to load without compromising the integrity of the transmission system.”  This new process also meets the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s direction that “all Transmission Providers should be evaluating whether changes are needed to their queue management practices to ensure the expediency called for by Order No. 2003.” (Order on Technical Conference, March 20, 2008, AD08-2-000)

Tri-State’s revised Generator Interconnection Procedures will go into effect July 1, 2010 with the opening of a 60-day request window for accepting applications.  All applications received after July 1, will be processed under these new procedures.
