Kit Carson Wind Power project
In keeping with its efforts to diversify its resource portfolio to meets its member co-ops’ power requirements, Tri-State has signed a 20-year agreement with a subsidiary of Duke Energy Corp. to purchase the output of a new 51-megawatt wind farm to be built in east-central Colorado. |

Representatives from Highline Electric Association, Tri-State, Ormat Technologies and Kinder Morgan Pipeline were in Peetz, Colo., June 24 to dedicate Highline’s first renewable energy project that captures heat generated from gas turbines to produce electricity. |

Construction career days
Representatives from Tri-State's transmission maintenance and geography information systems departments participated in Construction Career Days held at the Adams County fairgrounds, where more than 1,000 high school students from across the state received a first-hand look at opportunities in the construction industry from some of Colorado's largest employers. |

Durango-Bayfield transmission construction
In early December, Tri-State crews energized the association's new Bayfield-Durango 115-kilovolt transmission line after completing a $5.3 million rebuild project of the aging line in southwest Colorado, which serves member co-op La Plata Electric Association. Originally constructed in 1958, the old line was taken out of service in late July before construction began, which included the removal and replacement of 145 H-frame structures. |

Chugwater school ETS installation
In Chugwater, Wyo., the Platte County School District utilized the incentive program to upgrade its coal-fired boiler that heated the elementary school classrooms to an electric thermal storage system, which now is saving the school both energy and money. Tri-State member cooperative Wheatland Rural Electric Association (Wheatland, Wyo.) worked closely with the school to ensure the best system was installed to meet its needs. Through the incentive program, the district received more than $7,500 in rebates for the new system, and is also realizing significant savings on its monthly electric bill.
